Why I started a Youtube Channel

“I’ll rather just live my life not having a digital footprint, be effective, efficient and successful as i can be in whatever i find myself doing”. (Ebuka Nwabueze, before 2025)
This was my thought process over the past few years, the people that know me personally (friends, family) would mention that one of the qualities that i have is being “calm” or “quiet”. So having a low profile online has been very much my desire for a long time.
However, something changed recently and made me see reasons why using social media and online content is very advantageous. Due to these reasons, i had a long time to rethink my decision why i chose not to be online and i trust and believe that i have made the best choice, to build a personal brand. You may be asking, “what are the reasons“, i’ll come to that in a second…be patient.
Before making this decision, the only active social media profile i had was on LinkedIn, the most i have done on this platform is updating my profile when i achieved a new goal in my career, whether that is finding a new job, acquiring a new certificate e.t.c or reaching out to someone who i would love to learn from, or even connect with professionals. These activities i would describe as a passive use of such platform.
Now that you have an idea of how i used social media in the past, you may also be wondering why is Youtube the platform to start with, i compared other social media platforms , and i came to the conclusion that Youtube fits perfectly to the desired.
The following are the reason i decided to start:
- Learning a new skill: I have always being a life-long learner and understand how valuable it is to keep learning especially when it is a situation where you are uncomfortable. Sincerely, YouTube is certainly a very big leap to me in comparison to how i have used social media in the past. However, as i understand that learning in an uncomfortable situation can lead to growth, I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to become more confident in talking in front of the camera, understanding a platform that i’m not very familiar with, it was the best option to take advantage of a chance to grow as a person.
- Sharing through long-form content: YouTube is the most popular platform that thrives on long-form content, therefore it is reasonable to use it for sharing thoughts, opinions, experiences that may not be able to fit into short videos like other platforms. I do have perspectives and knowledge that is potentially helpful to a lot of people, so using long-form content in sharing feels the most realistic.
Below is my first video, i felt proud taking such a bold step and hopefully someone out there can be inspired to start just like i did.
